Day 33
Waiting… Today was the day Jackie was to get her Mediport installed. Her mom showed up bright and early today to bring her to the hospital. Her appointment was at 11 but they requested to have you come an hour in advance. During my lunch break I called Jackie hoping that she was done and I could take her to lunch. Instead she was waiting in the preop room for surgery still. The surgery room was full today and I guess everyone is trying to get surgery before the holidays. Of course I would always try to use whatever free time I have to visit my wife. I rushed over to the hospital to show her some support. After I finished work at four I rushed home to take care of Jackie. Nobody was home. I called and found out they just finished and were eating lunch. Isn’t that incredible? From 11am to 4 pm. They must have been giving out free nose jobs.
The mediport is a neat little device. It fits right under the skin and had a catheter attached to an artery. A small needle is inserted into the top of the mediport to draw blood, inject, and even provide CT contrasts. There is only a small amount of maintenance that requires flushing of saline and heparin every month.
Tomorrow is chemo. We made a hearty dinner packed with protein for Jackie today. I packed a snack pack with candy, fiber bars, ensure, water, and fruit for Jackie to snack on. She is currently napping. I really wonder how her body is so strong. She can just bounce back up from procedure to procedure. I hope the chemo does not affect her body or mood. The mind is stronger than the body right?
